Marine Radio Licence

All marine radio users, except those operating 27MHz maritime radio stations, must be qualified. A Certificate of Proficiency or Statement of Attainment shows that the holder has the skill to operate certain types of radios.

A person operating a VHF marine radio without holding an appropriate qualification or being under the supervision of an appropriately qualified person, may be breaching the Radiocommunications Act. Penalties include significant fines and imprisonment.

VHF Radio (SROCP)

This licence can be achieved by simply studying the AMC VHF handbook online or by purchasing a hard copy of the workbook from us. On completion of the self study, it is recommended that students sit a practice quiz online through ACMA.

Once ready, simply book an assessment session which includes a 30 minute refresher session and a 25 question multi choice exam at our office in Gold Coast City Marina. On completion of the exam, your exam is mailed to ACMA and your results will be mailed.

Costs for this licence are $150. This includes $83 payed to the University of Tasmania to manage your exam + $67 to cover assessment and postage costs.

MF/HF and VHF Radio Licence (LROCP)

This licence can be achieved by studying the AMC Marine Radio Operators handbook online or by purchasing a hard copy of the workbook from us. It is more comprehensive than the VHF Licence and is the required qualification for coxwains and above. On completion of the self study, it is recommended that students sit a practice quiz online through ACMA.

Once ready, simply book an assessment session which includes a 60 minute refresher session and a 25 question multi choice exam at our office in Gold Coast City Marina. On completion of the exam, your exam is mailed to ACMA and your results will be mailed.

Costs for this licence are $170. This includes $83 payed to the University of Tasmania to manage your exam + $87 to cover assessment and postage costs.

Step 3 - Course Booking

Book for an assessment at our training room in Gold Coast City Marina. This assessment involves a 30 minute refresher session and invigilation of 25 multi choice questions. We typically run assessments every Wednesday night from 6pm. Other times are available on request.

Classtime

Classtime is a 6.5m rigid inflatable powered by a 150Hp Evinrude Etec. Surveryed for 9 persons in current AMSA 2C survey.

Seadoo Gti

Our training PWC is a seadoo 130Hp Gti 3 seater. With IBR and OPAS, this pwc is perfectly suited to the training environment.

BJ

BJ is a 4.5 Stessco side console powered by a 60 Hp Evinrude Etec. BJ is the perfect training vessel for the rivers and creeks such as Tallebudgera Creek.

These sessions are conducted at our main training room located in Gold Coast City Marina in Coomera. These courses can be completed by either face to face sessions in the classroom or by completing the theory component of the course online. Practical sessions are conducted on the Coomera River which is perfectly suited training environment.

Wednesday 3.30pm or Saturdays/Sundays

These sessions are conducted from our training room at Tallebudgera Creek. Courses completed at Tallebudgera Creek are typically done by completing the theory component of the course online although full face to face courses can be arranged. Practical sessions are conducted on the Tallebudgera Creek, Broadbeach Waters or on the Nerang River.
