Common Questions

When do I need a boat licence?

You need a boat licence in QLD to operate a powered vessel over 6Hp in engine size.

Is the boat licence and jet ski licence the same?

No. The boat licence allows you to operate a recreational boat while the jet ski licence allows the operation of a jet ski. You cannot operate a jet ski in QLD with a boat licence only.

Can I do my jet ski licence only?

In QLD it is a requirement for students wishing to complete the Personal Water Craft Licence (PWC or Jet Ski) that they hold a current RMDL (Boat Licence).

What Is the minimum age to get a boat licence?

You must be 16 years of age to acquire a boat licence, but you are able to attend and complete the boat licence course training at 15½ years of age. Once you turn 16 years, you can take your certificate to Queensland transport to get your boating licence.

Do you have to renew you boat licence each year?

No, once you have taken your certificate of competency to QLD transport, your boating licence is then for life, no renewals!

Does it go on your car licence?

No, it is separate and free standing licence and is only indicated on your drivers licence(Marine Licence Indicator). For example, you don’t need a car licence to obtain a boat licence.

How do I pay?

For online courses, part payment is made on registration of your intended course and the remainder is payable when you attend a practical session. For face to face courses, payment can be made prior to attending or on the day of your course. We accept MasterCard, Visa, cash and EFT.

What will I need on the day?

• ID such as drivers licence, passport, 18+ card,birth certificate or passport

• A hat & sunscreen, weather proof jacket depending on the weather

• Water, lunch, snacks as we will have MT and Lunch on the day

Is there a refund policy?

Once enrolled and booked into an online training course, any initial payment is non-refundable. If you decide after enrollment that you would prefer to complete a face to face course, this can be arranged on request, providing a position is available on the selected course date.

Can I purchase a Gift Certificate?

Yes. Gift Certificates are a great gift for someone. Vouchers can be picked up, delivered to Gold Coast residents or posted by mail.

Course Dates

Our main training room is located at office #50 in Gold Coast City Marina. Full airconditioned facilities with an easy walk onto the marina and departure to the Coomra River. Courses run every week, check out our course dates.

VHF Radio

We also offer VHF radio and MF/HF licence assessment. If your purchasing a vessel that is fitted with a VHF radio it is a requirment that that the operator hold the correct certificate of profiency.

Johnathon is involved in all aspects of vessel management and ensures a complete maintenance schedule for your vessel.

Classtime

Classtime is a 6.5m rigid inflatable powered by a 150Hp Evinrude Etec. Surveryed for 9 persons in current AMSA 2C survey.

Seadoo Gti

Our training PWC is a seadoo 130Hp Gti 3 seater. With IBR and OPAS, this pwc is perfectly suited to the training environment.

BJ

BJ is a 4.5 Stessco side console powered by a 60 Hp Evinrude Etec. BJ is the perfect training vessel for the rivers and creeks such as Tallebudgera Creek.

Wednesday 3.30pm or Saturdays/Sundays

These sessions are conducted from our training room at Tallebudgera Creek. Courses completed at Tallebudgera Creek are typically done by completing the theory component of the course online although full face to face courses can be arranged. Practical sessions are conducted on the Tallebudgera Creek, Broadbeach Waters or on the Nerang River.
